<Mountains & Islands> is a bold, sensual “saekdong (multi-colored stripes) landscape painting” created with conceptual colors that reflect the Korean sentiment and the hues and stripes of saekdong. “Dong” refers to a single color stripe, and by juxtaposing stripes of complementary or similar colors, I create a brilliant and tense image. As these color bands repeatedly overlap and continually extend, they blur the boundaries between center and background, figurative and abstract, and traditional and contemporary, while generating a refined sense of beauty and resonating aesthetic language.
