Chae works to overcome the high viscosity of ottchil, she continues to experiment with and develop techniques from Eastern ink-and-wash paintings or Western oil or watercolor paintings that can be used with ottchil. Creating a color gradient effect is challenging when working with ottchil, as it requires the repetitive application and hardening of lacquer, but this makes it all the more interesting.
<Sonority> was created by focusing on and visualizing unlimited imagination and the inner voice without producing an esquisse beforehand. The dreamy smears of ink-and-wash paintings, marvelous colors arising from traces of accumulated thoughts, and coincidental yet artificial movement of the paintbrush add richness to the work.
Seeing what resonates internally instead of externally and continuously exploring and contemplating the boundary between the visible and invisible will lead to the discovery of new possibilities of ottchil.
